Go First Suspends Flights For 3rd & 4th May Due To Non-Supply Of Engines; Lawsuit Filed

Go First Airlines, which was formerly known as Go Air Airlines, has recently suspended all its flights on the 3rd and 4th of May, according to a recent Economic Times article. The reason for such a drastic step is that most of its fleet, as of now, is grounded. The company has been struggling with issues of non-supply of engines which has rendered it unable to operate flights as per usual. The company has even filed a lawsuit.

According to the Economic Times article, the airline has been struggling with cash flow since it hasn’t received aircraft engines on time. There has been a slew of issues in the engines that it has been supplied including the issue of non-supply.

Its engine supplier is the US-based Pratt & Whitney The airline, owned by the Wadia group, has filed a lawsuit against the company for failing to provide the aircraft engines on time. It has sought the enforcement of the arbitral award which states that Pratt & Whitney has to provide aircraft engines to Go Air.

According to the article, if the engines are not provided, there is a risk that the airline will shut down. An arbitration award was given in favour of Go Air on the 30th of March which stated that there were chances that irreparable damage could be caused if the engines are not provided.

Net Loss Of $218 Million Reported By The Airline

The article also reported that as of the 31st of March, the airline grounds 30 of its aircraft owing to the problem. Nine of these aircraft have lease payments due. During a time when air travel is at an all-time high since the pandemic, the company is facing a serious loss.

It has reported a net loss of $218 million in the previous financial year. This is more than double the loss it reported in the financial year of 2021 which was $105 million. As of now, the airline plans on operating 1,538 flights in the summer schedule which is currently underway. This number is lower than last year.
