Goa Gets It’s Very Own ‘Zero Waste Grocery Store’

What can make Goa more iconic? The reduction of plastic is definitely one of the highlights. This grocery store named ‘EcoPasro’ in Goa was started by Jonah and Eldridge. It is a new and innovative way to not just manage waste but to not create it in the first place. Rare isn’t it? One might think it is almost impossible ways to run a grocery store without plastic but these two are proving it to be wrong.

With approaching climate change, we definitely need the zero-waste stores more than ever. Let’s understand what they do to be zero waste and how they manage to run it on a daily basis. The plastic bags and plastic containers are replaced with paper bags used for solid substances and liquid substances go in a  glass container. If you manage to get your own bags and containers, then great. But if not, they lend you glass containers to carry it back home or pack it in a paper bag for you. And you won’t believe this one, they give a 50% refund when they bring containers back.

This way, you not only reduce or manage waste but also wash and reuse it. Now, let’s take a look at the product they sell. Are they even ‘zero-waste’?  They have handpicked their vendors who use jute bags or cloth bags to pack their produce, said the owners, reports Home Grown. This means they are preventing wastage from its very core.

One might now think, they have products at high rates than usual but to everyone’s surprise. They have them one or two rupees cheaper. What can be better than this?

They have taken up the agenda of refuse, reduce and reuse! Let’s do our bit and spread the idea and replace plastic with paper. Instead of managing waste, let’s not create any!
