The Konkan Railway has announced an additional halt for the Roll-on-Roll-off (Ro-Ro) car transportation train service between Kolad, Maharashtra, and Verna, Goa. The halt is planned at Nandgaon Road station in Maharashtra. This will enhance convenience and accessibility for passengers, especially ahead of the Ganesh festival.
New Halt To Ro-Ro Car Transportation Service Between Kolad & Verna
Konkan Railway’s Ro-Ro car transportation train has been launched to ferry private cars by train. Keeping in view the upcoming Ganesh festival rush, the Railway authorities have decided to add a halt between Kolad and Verna. According to The Economic Times, the new Ro-Ro car service will begin from August 23 from Kolad and August 24 from Verna. It is scheduled to operate on alternate days in each direction till September 11.
The train from Kolad will leave the station at 3 PM and arrive at Nandgaon Road by 10 PM. The scheduled departure time from the station is midnight. The train will finally reach Verna the next day at 6 AM. In the return leg, the train will depart from the Verna station at 3 PM and reach Nandgaon Road by 10 PM. It will then leave the station at 10:30 PM. It will arrive at the Kolad station the next day at 6 AM.
As per reports, motorists will have to pay ₹7,875 per car ₹7,875 (including GST) for the Kolad to Verna journey. For Kolad to Nandgaon Road, they will have to pay ₹5,460. Konkan Railway has added a specially designed rake that can transport up to 40 cars per trip, with two cars loaded onto each of its 20 wagons.

Lukewarm Response To The Car-On-Train Service
Many reports revealed that the Konkan Railway’s Ro-Ro car transportation service received a very poor response, with only one booking in its opening week. They have revised the freight charges and timings for the service. Furthermore, the last date for booking has now been extended from August 13 to August 18. However, no changes have been made regarding the number of passengers permitted to travel in the coaches or the fares.
