In some good news for all the general passengers, Indian Railways has decided to launch ‘Economy Meals’ this summer at several railway stations. These meals will cost you only ₹20 and will be hygienically prepared and served at select railway stations across its network. For now, IRCTC has successfully launched this project at 100 stations and nearly 150 counters in total. They have plans for further expansion as well.

According to the officials, this project is launched keeping in mind the surge of travellers in trains during summer. With these ‘Economy Meals’, IRCTC will be able to provide general passengers with pocket-friendly and hygienic meals. For now, they are serving two meal options at these counters. The ‘Economy Meals’ are priced at ₹20, while the ‘Snack Meals’ are priced at ₹50 and offer lighter options.

Talking about these meals with PTI, an IRCTC official said, “We are expecting an upsurge in passenger numbers during the summer season and understand the problems faced by those travelling in unreserved compartments, who may not always have access to convenient and pocket-friendly meal options.”
