Good News! Tomato Prices Expected To Reduce Due To New Crops From Maharashtra & MP

Soaring prices of tomatoes all around India are making the headlines for a long time now. It is getting difficult for people to buy this vegetable paying a huge price. In between all the news of the hike in the cost of tomatoes, we have got some great information. It is expected that tomato prices will go down. The Centre discussed this on Friday. A lot was discussed regarding tomatoes and their increasing costs during the monsoon session of the Parliament on Friday. A member of the Rajya Sabha asked a question regarding this and Ashwini Kumar Choubey, the Consumer Affairs Minister stated the response about the expectations of the prices to reduce, according to a report by Organiser. He also mentioned how the Government has already begun procuring this vegetable under Price Stabilisation Fund. They are checking the present tomato costs and also bringing them to the customers at a low cost.

Ashwini Kumar Choubey also shared that the National Cooperative Consumers Federation and National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation are procuring tomatoes from different states in India. They started procurement of this vegetable from mandis in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra, according to a report by The Statesman. These tomatoes are getting available in “major consuming centres in Delhi-NCR, Bihar, Rajasthan after subsidising the price”, he was quoted as saying.

There are expectations for the cost of this vegetable to decrease in the market in the upcoming days. As more and more crops start coming from states such as Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, the price is expected to go down simultaneously. The ongoing hike in tomato prices may provide a boost to the farmers to yield more tomatoes, shared the Minister. This can turn out to be a major help to control the cost of this vegetable going on in the retail market.

The Minister also added that the Consumer Affairs Department checks the tomato costs; along with other essential food commodities.
