These initiatives come under the broader ‘The Emirates: The Startup Capital of the World’ campaign, led by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The aim is pretty straightforward: turn the UAE into a global hub for innovation, startups, and business success. And honestly, the way they’re doing it is very much hands-on, no sitting back and watching.
Helping Aspiring Entrepreneurs
The first initiative targets budding business minds. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, the New Economy Academy, and Ignyte, DIFC’s digital startup platform, the programme aims to train 10,000 Emiratis in launching and scaling new ventures.
So how does it work? There are two learning tracks.
- Essentials of Entrepreneurship: three days of online and in-person sessions, from 16–18 November. Ideal for people testing the waters in the startup world.
- Complete Entrepreneurship Masterclass: six-day intensive from 8–15 December for those ready to build businesses that scale.
Topics cover everything from business model design, financial planning, and marketing to legal frameworks and pitching to investors. Graduates get a certificate from the New Economy Academy.
Building Tax Expertise
Meanwhile, the Emirati Tax Agent Programme is busy shaping the next generation of tax professionals. Run by the Federal Tax Authority in partnership with the New Economy Academy, the goal is to certify 500 Emiratis over the next three years. Just saying, that’s a solid step toward building a skilled finance workforce.
The programme includes two diplomas:
- VAT Diploma: six days covering registration, filing, invoicing, and accounting.
- Corporate Tax Diploma: eleven days focused on compliance, company registration, and practical case studies.
In practice, these courses are about more than passing exams; they teach skills you’ll actually use in the real world. Come on, we all know businesses need tax-savvy professionals.

Why This Matters
Let’s face it: the UAE isn’t just building startups; it’s nurturing talent. These programmes are a chance to give Emiratis the tools to compete globally, run successful ventures, and ensure strong financial governance. After all, you can have the best ideas, but without skills and know-how, they won’t get far.
Whether you’re an aspiring entrepreneur or future tax expert, this is more than a course; it’s a way to step into opportunities that could shape the country’s business and finance landscape for years to come.
