Gujarat has been pelted with heavy rain for the last three days. Now, if weather reports are to go by, it is being said that these torrential rains will intensify into a tropical cyclone. Being dubbed Cyclone Asna, it is said that it will form over the Arabian Sea. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about the tropical cyclone in the Arabian Sea — Asna.

Gujarat Rains To Intensify Into Cyclone Asna Over Arabian Sea

According to an article which was recently published by Down To Earth or DTE, the reason behind this cyclone is the unusual monsoon wind system. As per the India Meteorological Department or the IMD, the torrential rain in the state is caused by the deep depression that will intensify into a tropical cyclone today.

This would be a rare occurrence as the depression formed over land and yet the cyclone will form over sea. As per the DTE article, the depression was situated 60 kilometres northwest of Bhuj. On Thursday, August 29, 2024, at around 8:30 AM, it was situated 80 kilometres northeast of Naliya in Gujarat.

The IMD also states that the storm will move west-southwestward into the northeastern Arabian Sea and then head towards the coasts of Saurashtra and Pakistan. After August 30, it is said that it will move away from the Indian coasts.

First Cyclone To Be Formed Since 1981 In August In NIO

One of the other reasons why this cyclone is viewed as such an uncommon phenomenon is that it is the first of its kind since 1981. This cyclone is taking place in the North Indian Ocean or the NIO during the month of August.

This has not happened since the year 1981. It is hoped that this cyclone does not cause much damage to property as well as to human life.
