Gulmarg Receives Fresh Snowfall While Plains In J&K Get Drenched In Rain

What season is this? I am sure you all might be asking this question at least once a day! Ideally, Gulmarg is blessed with amazing snowfall from December to February. But this time, the town saw light and fresh rainfall right in the month of April. Yes, the town witnessed fresh snowfall during the last 24 hours, while the plains of Jammu and Kashmir saw moderate rainfall.

Avalanche warnings were issued for seven J&K districts by the Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) and the Meteorological Department (MeT) for the upcoming 24 hours. 

While rains pounded Jammu and Kashmir’s lowlands over the past 24 hours, fresh snow fell in Gulmarg Ski Resort and other higher peaks.

MeT officials informed travellers that while Gulmarg faced light snowfall, other higher reaches also received snowfall. The mercury also came down after the plains of Jammu and Kashmir faced intermittent rainfall. 

They also informed us that there were also chances of moderate rain, snow, and thunderstorms over the higher regions of Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. There will also be a decrease in precipitation in the next two days.

Temperatures Reported By MeT

According to MeT officials, Srinagar’s low temperature of 7.9°C, down from 10.3°C the previous night, was typical for the city’s summer capital.

They reported that Gulmarg experienced a low temperature of -0.6°C, 2.9°C below average, compared to 2°C the previous night. 

According to MeT officials, Qazigund recorded a low temperature of 7.2°C, which was 0.7°C above average and lower than the previous night’s low of 9.2°C.

According to them, Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in the Anantnag region of south Kashmir, experienced a low temperature of 2.6°C, down from 5.4°C the previous night. This was 0.8°C below usual.
