Guru Purnima 2025: Why It Is Celebrated, Dates, Significance And All About It

Guru Purnima 2025 will be celebrated on July 10. The day pays homage to one of the greatest Hindu gurus and the author of the Vedas, sage Vyasa. On this occasion, Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist communities express their gratitude to the gurus who have helped them become better versions of themselves, guiding them through the ups and downs of life.

Who Was Ved Vyasa?

Sage Vyasa is often also called Krishna Dvaipayana. Vyasa was the son of the sage Parashara and a princess, Satyavati. The name ‘Vyasa’ means ‘compiler.’ Born to a wise sage, Vyasa inherited the deep knowledge of ancient texts and was also regarded as the partial incarnation of Vishnu and one of the Chiranjeevis, according to many devotees.

He wrote the Hindu epic—the Mahabharata, and is also believed to have authored the four Vedas—Rigveda, Samaveda, Yajurveda, and Atharvaveda, which were originally one. To make the knowledge easy for future generations, it was later divided into four parts. Apart from this, he is the author of 18 Puranas and Brashma Sutras. Showing the right path of knowledge and dharma through his books, he earned the title of the Adi Guru.

Every year on the occasion of Guru Purnima, we remember the wise Ved Vyasa and also thank all the teachers who stood with us at each stage of our lives, showing us the right path. In 2025, this day will be celebrated on July 1o.
