The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee launched the Guru Harkrishan Institute of Medical Sciences, a 100-bedded kidney dialysis centre that promises to be the largest in the country. But this centre’s unique feature is that it provides free treatment at zero cost. There are no billing counters here. This hospital has been set up at Delhi’s Bala Saheb Gurudwara, at Sara Kale Khan complex.
Dialysis Hospital – The Need Of The Hour
A dialysis hospital has been the need of the hour. According to the Union health ministry, about 2.2 lakh people are diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease in India every year resulting in additional demand for 3.4 crore dialysis sessions. Unfortunately, in India, more than 30% of kidney patients don’t have any access to medical facilities. They are either poor or have sold their assets to cover the cost of their treatment. This hospital promises to save the life of the patients free of cost.

The Hospital Has No Billing Counter
With approximately 4950 dialysis centres in India, the existing infrastructure is not sufficient for dialysis patients. Plus, every dialysis has an additional cost tag of about ₹2000, which sums up to a huge monthly expenditure for patients. The cost adds up to ₹3lakhs to ₹4 lakhs annually which is a hefty sum to pay for most families. This centre comes as a ray of hope for all those whose life depends on dialysis.

The hospital is equipped with all the latest machines and facilities. Many people are either raising funds or donating to the hospital. Corporate houses are coming forward and they got funding from CSR as well. The committee will also bear the cost of the injections that are administered after a dialysis session.
