Bengaluru witnessed severe waterlogging after an intense overnight downpour submerged low-lying areas and paralysed vehicular movement. The unexpected rainfall caused chaos across the city, leaving several homes inundated and commuters stranded. While residents scrambled to recover from the damage, civic authorities rushed to respond to the flooding.
Bengaluru Floods Trigger Widespread Chaos Following Intense Waterlogging

With 290 mm already recorded this year, and the long monsoon season still ahead, more rain is expected.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru received over 105 mm of rainfall in a short period. Areas such as Kengeri and Vaderahalli recorded more than 130 mm, making it one of the most intense spells this season. The downpour led to major roads across the city becoming waterlogged, turning morning commutes into a nightmare.

As reported by The Indian Express, key junctions such as Silk Board, HRBR Layout, and Bommanahalli were severely affected. Water levels rose quickly in residential areas, including Horamavu and Sai Layout, where several homes and vehicles were partially submerged. Residents faced knee-deep water inside their houses, with many struggling to move belongings to higher levels.
BBMP Swings Into Action After Heavy Overnight Rain
As the water levels rose, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials inspected the most affected localities. BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao proposed the construction of new stormwater drains in and around Manyata and announced structural improvements in the Nagavara region.

However, as reported by The Times of India, local residents expressed their disappointment with the civic body, citing repeated instances of flooding during every monsoon season. They blamed unchecked urban development and poor drainage maintenance for the current state of affairs.
IMD Issues Yellow Alert In Bengaluru
With weather patterns still unstable, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru and 22 other districts in Karnataka. The department has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 60 km/h until the end of the week.

As per The Times of India, the city’s infrastructure continues to struggle with extreme weather. Despite a budget of over ₹19,000 crore allocated to the BBMP, the flooding has exposed serious gaps in urban planning and emergency preparedness.
