Heavy Rains Lash Mumbai, IMD Issues Orange Alert In The City; IndiGo Issues Travel Advisory

Amid heavy rainfall, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, warning that high tides may cause waterlogging in low-lying areas. The city police have also asked people to avoid coastal and low-lying areas right now.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Mumbai under an orange alert as heavy rain continues to lash the city on Tuesday. The weather department has forecasted more rainfall and thunderstorms for the city and its neighbouring areas. IndiGo has also issued a travel advisory.

Incessant Rain Batters Mumbai

According to India TV News, heavy rainfall has led to waterlogging in Mumbai’s western suburbs on Tuesday. Areas like Bandra, Andheri, Goregaon and eastern suburbs like Mulund, Vikhroli witnessed incessant downpour, which caused traffic congestion. The Andheri subway has also been closed for traffic due to waterlogging in the city.

The Mumbai Traffic Police took to X to announce, “Due to 2 feet of water accumulation, the Andheri Subway in Andheri West, Mumbai, has been closed to traffic and has been diverted via Gokhale Bridge.”

IMD raised the Yellow alert in Mumbai to Orange after the city witnessed heavy rainfall. They also issued an orange alert for Thane and Pune. Meanwhile, a red alert was issued for Raigad and a yellow alert for Palghar.

IndiGo Warns Of Delays & Disruptions Due To Weather Conditions

In view of heavy rainfall in Mumbai, IndiGo issued a travel advisory for all the flyers. The airline warned passengers of potential delays and disruptions due to heavy rain. Furthermore, due to the slower-than-usual traffic conditions across the city, they urged passengers to plan for additional travel time.

The city police also asked residents to avoid coastal and low-lying areas in the city for the time being.
