Especially the moment when we have to part from personal electronic devices like our smartphones or laptops. Aren’t you always plagued by the thought of, “What if someone else picks up your tray of gadgets?” Well, soon security checkpoints of some airports in India might not require you to remove these items. Passengers May Not Need To Submit Their Phones In A Tray At Some Airports
According to a news report by the Times of India, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has ordered that airports which see over 50 lakh passengers annually should install 3-D computed tomography X-ray (CTX) machines. This will be used for cabin bag checks that may not require passengers to keep their personal electronic devices or even liquid in a separate tray. This possible development may happen by December 31 of 2023 and the deadline means that you may soon find airport security checks much more convenient. Not to mention, the bureau has also set a year and deadline for airports handling over one crore passengers annually to introduce full-body scanners (FBS). If the airports adopt this technology, it will allow a faster and more stringent security check.

FBS To Also Be Installed At Some Airports
Moreover, the BCAS order for non-regional connectivity schemes, airports ask them to include CTX and FBS before starting the operations. If these technologies are installed at the airports, it will not only speed up the pre-embarkation security checkpoints (PESC) process but will also make for a more stringent security process. Not to mention, full body scanners will help in detecting non-metallic objects like liquid, plastic, or gel. Moreover, drug transportation will also be stopped with the scanners! As a result, invasive security checks, such as pat-downs and strip searches, will also get avoided in the process.
So, if you too dread putting your phone or precious laptops in the tray for security checks, by the year’s end, you might not have to go through it at all! Doesn’t that sound like a great move?
