On Wednesday, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated helicopter services from Sanjauli Heliport in Shimla. According to The New Indian Express, the new service will connect Shimla with Kullu, Reckong Peo in Kinnaur, and Chandigarh.
Currently, Himachal Pradesh depends heavily on narrow hill roads. Due to the region’s challenging geographical terrain, these routes regularly witness seasonal landslides and snow-related blockages. With the launch of the new heli-taxi service from Shimla, air connectivity in the region is expected to improve significantly, making tourism more accessible, convenient, and resilient throughout the year.
According to Hindustan Times, the structure of this ₹15.86-crore project was inaugurated back in 2022. However, due to the absence of mandatory clearances from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the service did not begin as expected. The clearance finally came through on August 7, 2025, and the project was finally inaugurated for public use on Wednesday.
