Hong Kong’s 46-year-old Jumbo floating restaurant is an iconic tourist spot. Established by the late casino tycoon Stanley Ho, Jumbo floating restaurant exuberated luxury and royalty vibes thanks to imperial Chinese palace designs. The beautiful restaurant also hosted Tom Cruise and Queen Elizabeth II. Unfortunately, this once famed Hong Kong tourist attraction has devastatingly sunk due to adverse weather conditions. Jumbo Floating Restaurant Sinks In South China Sea

Jumbo floating restaurant got capsized on June 18 in the South China Sea. The restaurant that stood the test of time since 1976 has left Hong Kong residents in regret and nostalgia. According to a report by TimeOut, no crew members were injured. The ship has currently sunk 1000 metres in-depth and it will be difficult to salvage the ship.

It Faced Losses Due To Covid-19

In its heydays Jumbo floating restaurant catered to over 2300 diners in full capacity. Spanning 45,000 square feet the restaurant looked like a royal Chinese palace floating on water. It was even featured in the Hollywood blockbuster Contagion Unfortunately the coronavirus pandemic led to the restaurant suffering massive losses and it shut down for operations on March 3, 2020.
