Hornbill Festival: Footfall Soars At The Nagaland Festival, Over 78K People Visit In 1st 5 Days

Nagaland is one of the most beautiful Northeastern states of India and it has tons of wonderful experiences to offer. Famously known as the land of festivals, this state is known for celebrating grand tribal festivals all around the year, and one of the most renowned of them is the Hornbill Festival. The festival is turning out to be a grand success this year as locals are welcoming thousands of visitors every day.

Hornbill Festival Is Witnessing A Rise In Footfall This Year

Taking to the X (formerly Twitter) platform, Hiroshi Suzuki, Ambassador of Japan (@HiroSuzukiAmbJP) shared some glimpses of enjoying “cultural dances and delicious food from different tribes of Nagaland” at the festival.

Celebrated with pomp and glory, the rich culture, traditions, and authenticity attract a huge number of locals and tourists from all around the country and even abroad as well. Kisama Heritage Village in the Kohima district is the venue for this year’s Hornbill Festival. The festival which commenced on December 1 is all set to continue till December 10, 2023. The first five days reported a spectacular number of visitors attending the festival.

From December 1 to 5, the Hornbill Festival welcomed over 78,000 visitors, according to a report by Hindustan Times. Considering the number of participants in the previous years, this year’s numbers are surely noticing an uptick and it is impressive. The Tourism Department stated the turnout of visitors at the festival recently. Locals visited at the festival in the most numbers.

Pankaj Bhattacharjee (@pankajbhatta) shared some sneak peeks of the event and celebrations.

56,115 locals and 20,659 travellers from different parts of India spent an amazing time enjoying the celebrations at the festival venue. The official data shared that 1,621 international visitors went to the Hornbill Festival in the first 5 days. The Government of Nagaland organises the festival every year. The first ever Hornbill festival took place in 2000.

Sunday Witnessed The Highest Number Of Visitors As Of Now

Each day of the festival sees a huge number of attendees who look forward to witnessing the grandeur of all the traditional and tribal performances, celebrations, and more. In the first 5 days of the Hornbill Festival, Sunday witnessed the most number of visitors. On the third day, December 3, 18,002 people were seen visiting the festival. They certainly enjoyed a great time soaking in the cultural ambience and witnessing such spectacular presentations of Naga tribes and so much more.

MDoNER India (@MDoNER_India) shared a video of the Naga tribes sharing the essence of their heritage.

Among the 18,002 people on the third day, 12,578 were from Nagaland, 5,001 were from different places in India, and 423 came from overseas.

Abu Metha welcomed and hosted His Excellency the Ambassador of Japan to India at the festival.
