How A New Field Guide, ‘Mushrooms Of Uru’ Is Educating Bangalore On The City’s Hidden Mushroom Ecosystem

Bangalore is renowned for its lush green parks and botanical gardens. Among these, Lalbagh Botanical Gardens and Cubbon Park stand out as two of the most iconic green spaces in the city. While these parks are well-known for their rich biodiversity, there is an equally fascinating and largely unseen world beneath the surface: the fungal life. In recent years, the interest in fungi, particularly mushrooms, has surged globally. However, Nuvedo, a company dedicated to unlocking the potential of mushrooms, is on a mission to change that.

Pioneering Fungal Exploration

Nuvedo has taken significant steps to explore and educate the public about the diverse fungal life in Bangalore. To maximise the potential of mushrooms, their field guide, Mushrooms of Uru, aims to inform Bengalureans about the important and interesting fungal kingdoms. It provides a gateway to this hidden world. This comprehensive guide serves as a valuable resource for naturalists, researchers, and enthusiasts about the diverse species of mushrooms that thrive in the city’s parks and green spaces.

The city’s gardens, parks, and even its urban spaces are home to numerous types of fungi. The ‘Mushrooms of Uru’ guide documents these species. There are detailed descriptions, photographs, and information about their ecological roles and potential uses. The cause seeks to foster a greater respect for nature and shed light on the importance of fungi. According to Nuvedo, the power of mushrooms can improve environmental and human health in the future.

Nuvedo was established after a five-year search for a sustainable, wholesome, and adaptable food source. The company is led by a group of scientists, marketing experts, and mushroom aficionados. Their objective is to become the top mushroom wellness brand in India by making these products available to all.

Bangalore boasts a well-documented plant and bird life, but the fungal kingdom has remained largely in the shadows.
