Late on a Sunday evening, an Air India flight en route from Hyderabad to Dubai found itself at the centre of a security scare when it received a hijack threat via email. This unsettling threat initially sent shockwaves of concern through the airport, putting authorities at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on high alert.

Immediate And Decisive Response Of Hyderabad Airport On Hijack Threat

Swift and resolute action followed the reception of the threat. Authorities wasted no time and immediately initiated a thorough search of the entire flight. Fortunately, this detailed search produced no evidence of any coming danger. The airport’s dedicated authorities, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, demonstrated their unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all passengers and the airport premises.

As per Hindu, at 7:37 p.m. on Sunday, an email arrived, alleging that an individual named Thirupathi Baadineni, with passport number R8124xx4, was identified as an ISI Informer. The email further said that he had intentions to hijack Air India flight 951, originally set to depart from Hyderabad to Dubai at 8 p.m.

Local police, delving into the matter, revealed that the Airport Operations Control Center (AOCC) had received an alarming email. It was regarding alleging that a passenger had intentions to hijack an Air India flight bound for Dubai from Hyderabad. The authorities registered a case as an official response. A comprehensive investigation is currently in progress, with the primary objective of tracing the source behind this disturbing fraud threat.

Investigation Claims False Threat

As per Business Standard, Inspector R. Srinivas of RGI Police Station addressed the situation, stating that they received an email at AOCC. The email contained an allegation of a passenger planning to hijack an Air India flight from Hyderabad to Dubai. The investigation determined the claim was false. However, they registered a case and are currently conducting an ongoing investigation.

In the interest of safeguarding passengers and maintaining security, authorities promptly enforced precautionary measures. They carefully off-loaded all passengers scheduled to board the specific flight, subjected them to thorough screening, and subsequently accommodated them on an alternate flight.

Following the incident, they cancelled the originally scheduled flight AI 951 and made alternative arrangements for the remaining 111 passengers heading to Dubai.
