Hyderabad: Gulf Air Flight Receives Hoax Bomb Threat Email Minutes After Takeoff; Lands Safely

On Wednesday, a Gulf Air flight from Bahrain to Hyderabad received a bomb threat email just minutes after take-off. The message, sent from an unidentified email address, was addressed to multiple official airport email accounts. Authorities at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport immediately activated the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee. Following an assessment, the threat was declared a hoax.

Hyderabad Airport Receives Bomb Threat For Gulf Air Flight

According to NDTV, the bomb threat email concerning Gulf Air flight GF274 from Manama to Hyderabad was received at 10:30 PM on Wednesday. The message was sent from an unidentified email address to multiple official airport email accounts, including those of the customer support and lost and found departments.

The email’s subject line reportedly read, “Holy Jihad: Blast in Hyderabad Airport Terminals When Gulf Air 274 From Bahrain Lands to RGIA.” The sender claimed affiliation with the Tamil Liberation Organisation (TLO) and alleged that individuals trained by an extremist outfit were on board the flight. The message further warned of an explosion upon the aircraft’s landing.

According to the latest update, the Gulf Air flight landed safely in Hyderabad. It then departed for Bahrain.

Here’s What We Know So Far

As per the NDTV report, Hyderabad Airport authorities immediately activated the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC). They declared the threat as “non-specific” after a detailed assessment. For now, the CISF has intensified surveillance in and around the airport, and a probe is underway to trace the email’s origin and identify the sender.

Furthermore, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) was deployed to conduct a thorough scan of the check-in and arrival areas, carry out random security checks, and implement additional precautionary measures to enhance security.
