Travel brings you a sense of freedom and happiness that no other experience in the world can match up to. However, some incidents can hamper this joyful experience as well. In a detailed post on Instagram, she shared how the immigration officer made an inappropriate comment, and it has sparked a debate about women’s safety.

In the post, Lexie shared that while leaving Nigeria and going through immigration, an officer looked at her and said, “If it were up to me, I wouldn’t let you leave my country. I’d chain you up in my basement.” Shocked beyond belief, she couldn’t even respond to the immigration officer’s creepy comment and moved from there.
She shared that the incident happened in the middle of the day, and there were other officers nearby as well. She added, “It’s one of the creepiest things anyone has ever said to me and made worse by the fact that it came from someone in a position of power.”
The now-viral video has sparked a debate about all the troubles women have to go through while travelling. Lexie added that the reason for sharing her personal experience on social media was “not to discourage women from travelling, but to be real about the uncomfortable and sometimes unsafe situations that can happen anywhere.”
