Duggardhani, A Village Haat, Is Becoming A Tourist Attraction In J&K!

In Jammu & Kashmir’s Reasi, Duggardhani, a village haat programme launched by the government is designed to give 1,500 women in self-help groups a career alternative using their culinary skills. And it is quickly becoming a popular tourist destination.

It was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner Babila Rakwal in the Kheral panchayat. According to the reports, the initiative is more about empowering women than a business opportunity. Women of all ages are roped in this initiative.

In the upcoming months, Duggardhani is expected to grow into a significant tourist destination. It is due to its proximity to the road and the massive influx of visitors to Shri Shiv Khori. Not to mention its striking appearance, and the traditional manner of cooking and dining.

Initiative To Empower Women!

It serves as a platform to utilise homemakers’ culinary talents and give them the ability to support themselves. Moreover, they have collaborated with the Tourism Department and the Rural Livelihood Mission.

Women SHG members from cluster-level federations (UMEED) have taken their talents outside of the confines of their homes and converted Duggardhani into a professional option. By doing this, they have earned considerable money without exerting much effort and have grown to be significant financial contributors to their families.

The SHG members’ long-standing request for a market that tends to traditional handicrafts, such as chabhari binna (grass craft) and handlooms, as well as the region’s value-added agricultural and horticultural products, such as tikki masala, pickles, chutneys, jams, and papads, have also been met by Duggardhani.

The basic things like stocking the pantry, quick recipes, packaging methods, and other administration work have all been taught to the SHG members.
