In Just 2 Days Of Operations, Kolkata Underwater Metro Sees Over 1 Lakh Passengers

Kolkata Underwater Metro, which is the first underwater metro in the entire country, recently commenced operations. The commencement of the operations of the underwater metro was long anticipated by the locals. To give one an idea about how much the locals were looking forward to it, in just two days the stretch witnessed more than one lakh passengers! Yes! You read that right! Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this amazing new update.

Kolkata Underwater Metro Sees More Than One Lakh Passengers

The ‘City of Joy’ was indeed very joyous at the unveiling of the underwater metro. According to an article which was recently published by News18, the passenger footfall on the route between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade is 1,35,000.

On the first day, the total number of passenger footfall was more than 70,000! To be precise, it was 70,204. On the second day, more than 65,000 passengers were recorded. The highest passenger traffic was at the Howrah Maidan Metro Station.

The station saw a whopping 23,444 passengers on the first day. The Howrah Metro Station, on the other hand, saw 20,923 passengers. At Mahakaran Metro station, 13,453 passengers were recorded.

Other Important Details About This Particular Statistic

12,384 passenger footfalls were recorded at the Esplanade Metro Station. These numbers are a mix of regular commuters as well as non-regular travellers. A number of people travelled via the metro route in order to witness the architectural marvel.

Between Monday and Saturday, the metro will operate 130 services, 65 from Esplanade and 65 from Sealdah. The service will start at 7 AM and will end at 9:45 PM.
