India Devoured 1.34 Lakh Pizzas In Just 24 Hours On World Pizza Day: Report

India’s love for pizza is not unknown. Take one look at the yearly food delivery stats and pizza would certainly make it to one of the most ordered dishes of the year. India’s favourite food delivery aggregator Swiggy has released insights into India’s favourite comfort food, pizza. Would you believe that India devoured a whopping 34 million pizzas in the past year? On World Pizza Day, February 9 alone, around 1.34 lakh pizzas were ordered in just 24 hours.

Latest Swiggy Report Highlights India’s Pizza Obsession

On World Pizza Day, February 9, Indians celebrated the Italian classic in all its glory. Some held impromptu pizza parties at home while others ordered pizza from their favourite place to pamper themselves. After all, there’s nothing like biting into a cheesy stringy pizza, loaded with veggies and chicken. Pair it with your favourite soda or a beer, and you can have a party on the get-go.

Swiggy analysed its trends over the past years and announced that 34 million pizzas were ordered in one year. On February 9, 2025, Indians gorged on 1.34 lakh pizzas in just 24 hours. India’s ultimate pizza hubs were Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad. Each of these cities is vying for the top spot. Bengaluru and Mumbai aren’t craving pizza, they are leading the charge with each city clocking in 3 million pizza orders in 2024.

Pizza craving can strike anytime anywhere. Whether it’s a solo indulgence or a last-minute celebratory feast with friends, there’s a perfect slice of pizza for every mood of yours. Amongst the most ordered flavours, the classic Margherita Pizza triumphed as the ultimate champion, topping the charts in not one but all the cities across India in 2024. Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore witnessed over 19,000 Margherita Pizza orders last year. Swiggy’s newly launched Bolt deliveries executed the orders, delivering pizzas in just 10 minutes to drive away those hunger pangs.

Largest Pizza Order Worth ₹45,000 Came From Mumbai

The perfect pizza order demands the perfect sides. Indians ordered Garlic Bread, Cheese Dips and Cokes as beloved companions to their pizzas. So, what’s everyone’s favourite pizza spot in India? No points for guessing, it’s Domino’s Pizza which delivered 2.7 million orders in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

The biggest pizza order came from Mumbai, where a Swiggy user placed a massive order of 200 pizzas worth ₹45,000. There were 20 Margherita Pizzas, 20 Mexican Green Wave Pizza, 20 Indi Tandoori Paneer Pizza, plus 30 Garlic Breadsticks and 30 Cheesy Dip to top it off! What about the fastest order? That hailed from Barakar in West Bengal where in just 3.4 minutes, the pizza was delivered to the Swiggy user’s home.
