The aviation industry has registered a spectacular comeback after the long-duration halt in regular flight operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The post-pandemic numbers continue to improve impressively and are rushing fast to meet the record set back in 2019. The number of passengers boarding direct flights between India and international destinations is surging rapidly and here’s all you need to know about the recent information.

More Travellers Are Opting For International Direct Flights

OAG, a UK-based global travel data provider, revealed interesting information about travellers flying between India and different parts of the world. Based on the firm’s report, the number of flyers travelling between India and places worldwide rose spectacularly and established a new feat.

From 54 per cent in 2019, travel enthusiasts opting for non-stop flights jumped to 57 per cent in 2023. India witnessed a footfall of around 65 million international passengers travelling on flights last year. According to a report by The Times of India, 37 million passengers took direct flights between India and abroad in 2023.

In comparison to 2019, these numbers marked a surge of 2 million passengers last year. With more airlines introducing non-stop flights connecting India with different international countries, people are becoming more interested in booking direct flights and avoiding layovers.

The post-pandemic numbers might have not touched pre-pandemic records yet but it has shown great improvement. The difference between passenger numbers in 2023 and 2019 is about 6,00,000.

Renowned airlines in India introduced more than 50 air routes between India and foreign cities in the last few years. This is an incredible step to take India forward and build strong air connectivity worldwide.

With a noticeable demand for non-stop flights between India and overseas, the overall number of passengers booking tickets for indirect routes is reporting a noticeable decline. According to a Business Standard report, the number of passengers catching flights on indirect air routes dropped to 27 million. The overall number decreased by around 2.5 million.

With every passing year, the aviation sector is reporting great improvement. These positive results are a great representation of more and more people choosing the comfort of travelling on flights.
