The evidence of climate change is increasingly becoming more apparent. This year, especially, was no joke. And now, we have data to back this up! A report which was recently released by the Centre for Science and Environment or CSE revealed that India saw extreme weather events on 93 per cent of the days in the first nine months of this year! Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this particular report.

According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, this particular weather report was released today, Friday, November 8, 2024. As per the report, as many as 235 days out of the first 273 days of this year or the first nine months of this year, witnessed extreme weather events.

For instance, January 2024 was the driest month that India saw since 1901 — more than a hundred years! Then, February 2024 saw the second-highest minimum temperature in a whopping 123 years. On the other hand, May 2024 witnessed the fourth-highest mean temperature.

The months of July, August and September were the highest mean temperature recorded since 1901. The report was titled Climate India 2024: An Assessment of Extreme Weather Events and it was based on data provided by the India Meteorological Department or the IMD.

If reports are to go by, as many as 9,457 livestock were destroyed owing to the extreme weather conditions in India.  In addition to this, a large amount of crops were also destroyed owing to the same reason.

As per the director of CSE, such extreme weather is an indication of the impact of climate change. This report reveals why it is more important than ever to be proactive about understanding and inhibiting the impact of climate change is so important.
