India is currently experiencing intense monsoon activity, with heavy rainfall impacting multiple states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued several alerts, including a red alert for Gujarat, predicting continued heavy rains. Several other states, including Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and coastal regions, are also bracing for similar weather challenges as the monsoon intensifies across the country. In Gujarat, the incessant rains have caused severe flooding, particularly in Vadodara and Ahmedabad. The downpour has submerged several underpasses, leading to major traffic snarls and road closures. Schools have been closed, and 13 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, along with 22 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, have been deployed to assist in rescue and relief efforts. The IMD predicts that the heavy rainfall will continue for the next few days, with strong winds further complicating the situation.

In Rajasthan, the IMD has forecasted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall as a deep depression over East Rajasthan continues to move west-southwestward. This system is expected to reach the Saurashtra and Kutch regions, as well as the adjoining northeast Arabian Sea by August 29. This weather pattern is likely to bring significant rainfall to South Rajasthan, Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Coastal Karnataka over the next two to three days.

Meanwhile, a well-marked low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal is expected to move west-northwestwards, affecting East India. The IMD has warned of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in this region, particularly impacting states like Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. The heavy rains in these areas could lead to flooding and landslides, particularly in the hilly regions.

In Delhi, the IMD has issued a yellow alert, forecasting light to moderate rain with the possibility of thundershowers and gusty winds. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 33°C, with a minimum of 26°C. The capital has already seen light rainfall, which disrupted celebrations of Shri Krishna Janmashtami. The IMD has warned residents to be prepared for possible disruptions due to the weather.
Himachal Pradesh is also experiencing adverse weather conditions. The state’s meteorological office has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas for the next two days. Heavy rainfall has already led to the closure of 41 roads across the state, with districts like Mandi, Kangra, Shimla, and Kullu being particularly affected.

In coastal regions, including Konkan and Goa, as well as parts of Maharashtra, heavy rains are expected to persist. The IMD has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the Arabian Sea off the Gujarat coast due to rough seas and strong winds.
