Rains are intensifying in the hilly regions and many urban areas. Amid heavy rainfall, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) has issued high landslide alerts for four districts in Uttarakhand: Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli, as per The Indian Express. According to the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and the IMD, the warning will be in place for July 7 and 8. Plus, there is also an increased risk of slope failures and road blockages in these areas. The IMD has also shared a post on its X account for Monsoon Awareness Week, highlighting the expected impacts during this period.
Not only that, people in Delhi-NCR also woke up to light rain this morning. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rains over the next 3 days for the capital. There are also chances of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. A yellow alert is now in place for the capital.
Red And Orange Alerts In Several States
As reported by The Indian Express, a red alert has been issued for many parts of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Heavy rain and lightning are expected during the day. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Gujarat, Vidarbha, Konkan, and Goa, expecting heavy rain with thunderstorms.
Residents in the northeast, including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, can also expect heavy rain and thunderstorms over the next 7 days, as per the IMD. Heavy rains are also likely in parts of northwest India, including East Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh, on Monday.
With monsoon intensifying across many parts of the country and landslide alerts active in hilly regions, people are advised to remain cautious. Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods or cloudbursts. In Uttarakhand, the SEOC has instructed all district magistrates and disaster management bodies to activate precautionary measures, as well.
