Finance influencer Anushka Rathod took our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, on a food trail across Surat. The “Surat ki asi beti” left no stone unturned to introduce Kamiya and us at Curly Tales to the most wacky fusion dishes the city has to offer. There’s a Surati version of Burmese Khao Suey, a Gujarati Cold Chocolate, and even a savoury desi croissant that left us amused. Crisp, flaky and pizza-flavoured, Biscuit Pie could be Surat’s answer to France’s Croissant!
Anushka Rathod & Kamiya Jani Try Surati Special Biscuit Pie
Lapping up Surat ka swaad (flavour of Surat), Anushka Rathod and Kamiya Jani’s day out brought them to A1 Cold Coco. After sipping a super chocolatey Cold Coco and experiencing a sugar rush, the duo craved something savoury to cleanse their palate. In came the famous Biscuit Pie. Simply put, it’s neither biscuit nor pie. So, don’t go by the deceptive name!
But what it did promise is a satisfying eating experience akin to a biscuit and a pie. Seated in their car, a paper plate filled with pieces of flaky khari, topped with cheese, sauces and veggies was handed out to Kamiya. Anushka Rathod explained that it was a Biscuit Pie. On taking the first bite, Kamiya instantly exclaimed that it tasted “amazing”.

It Tasted Like A Savoury Desi Croissant
“You can even call it a savoury croissant,” quipped Anushka. The flaky texture, toppings and layers were the reasons why the influencer couldn’t help comparing it with the French bake. “The French should come to Surat. They may either get a heart attack or will be very impressed,” she joked. Croissant has been given an Italian take by the Suratis! And that’s the beauty of Biscuit Pie for you!
After having gorged on the flaky desi croissant, the duo made their way to Sai Bhajiya Centre. Here, Anushka treated Kamiya to plates of Rathaloo Bhajiya and Tamatar Bhajiya. Golden, crispy, and beautifully battered, the bhajiyas are paired with sweet khadi to soothe the fiery notes. Perfect for the rains, the duo couldn’t help leaning in for more.
