For this super special Sunday Brunch episode, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, travelled straight to Amritsar to meet Michelin-starred chef Vikas Khanna. During the episode, one of India’s most loved chefs not only revealed his favourite Indian food, but his family also shared what they love to eat at Bungalow, the chef’s highly acclaimed restaurant in New York.
Vikas Khanna’s Family Shares Their Favourite Dishes From Bungalow
Meeting Vikas Khanna was quite special. This Sunday Brunch episode revolved not just around food, but also around Vikas’ love for Indian cuisine, his family, his pet dog and, of course, his hometown, Amritsar. We were treated to Punjabi dishes like Rajma Chawal, Dahi Bhalla, Stuffed Karela and more. The conversation with his family also revolved around many things, including Vikas Khanna’s love for Shah Rukh Khan and his favourite movie, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), which he has watched over 500 times.
In between the conversation, Kamiya asked what the family likes to eat from his restaurant in New York City, Bungalow. Vikas’ elder brother, Nishant, said he loves the Dahi Kebab, while his daughter enjoys the Tiramisu. His wife loves the chutneys, while their mother enjoys the Cold Coffee from the restaurant.

Success Makes The Chef Nervous
Apart from these dishes, the saffron wali chai from Bungalow got a special mention from Vikas Khanna’s mother. She said, “Woh toh kamaal hi banata hai.” (He makes it really well.) She also sweetly added that she loves visiting his New York restaurant because everything is taken care of for her. She can simply relax and enjoy the experience, just like she would at a five-star hotel.
With his New York City restaurant witnessing so much success, Kamiya also congratulated Vikas Khanna for taking Indian cuisine to the global stage. The Michelin-starred chef shared that sometimes success makes him nervous, just as failure makes other people nervous. And whenever he feels nervous, he likes to visit Amritsar and spend time with his mother. How sweet is that?
