‘Marketing Genius’ Kartik Aaryan, ‘Finance Guru’ SRK: Inside Bollywood Business League With Karan Johar

On an inspiring episode of Stories From Bharat, filmmaker, entrepreneur, and fashion icon Karan Johar sat down with our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani for an engaging conversation. Karan spoke about his upcoming show, Pitch To Get Rich, PR disasters that turned into profitable ventures and how his instincts guide the future of Dharma Productions. To make things interesting and pitchy, we played a game of Bollywood Business League with KJo. Here’s how he fared.

Karan Johar Plays A Game Of ‘Bollywood Business League’

Bollywood Business League was all about throwing business-related situations at Karan Johar and asking him which star had an entrepreneurial mindset best suited for certain situations. First, Kamiya asked him to pick out a human resource manager from Bollywood. Karan instinctively chose himself for that role.

Next, marketing genius. “Kartik Aaryan. Great marketing mind! He has built his own brand so smartly, superbly and strategically,” opined the filmmaker. Who’s the “finance guru of Bollywood”? That’s undoubtedly Shah Rukh Khan, said KJo. He complimented King Khan on dealing with money very intellectually. Kamiya then asked him, “Who is very good with crisis management?” Karan Johar reasoned that it is someone very calm and peaceful. The reply? Aamir Khan. Finally, she asked who he’d award as the ‘salesperson of the year’.

Names Ranveer Singh ‘Salesperson Of The Year’

The filmmaker said it’s Ranveer Singh. “He is great at selling everything, and he does that with such charm and amazing energy that you can’t help but buy it.” Karan Johar was also asked to name a celebrity who is most likely to build a unicorn. “Again, Shah Rukh Khan. And also Alia Bhatt. She has a sharp business sense. Alia already did it with Ed-a-Mamma. And she can do so much more. I know she will do so much more.”

When the co-founder was asked if it was necessary for Bollywood stars to become entrepreneurs these days, he said it wasn’t necessary. He cited examples of actors Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone who are going beyond their own craft.
