In what seemed to be no less than a medley of festivals, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam at music composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan’s home. The voice behind Breathless hosted the Curly Tales team for a Sunday Brunch with his wife, Sangeeta and sons, Siddharth and Shivam.
Shankar Mahadevan Believes The Audience Forgives Genuine Performers
While tucking into a lavish Onam Sadya with Ganesh Chaturthi specialities like Ukadiche Modak, as the crown jewel, Kamiya Jani played a fun game with Shankar Mahadevan and his family. During the game, she asked the singer if he had ever forgotten the lyrics of his songs while performing live on stage. To this, the trio of singers instantly replied “Har bhar.” (Often)
Shankar Mahadevan even admitted adding his own lyrics on stage, and yet the audience wouldn’t catch on to it. “When you know the audience is with you, and they are loving you… Then they don’t mind if you forget the lyrics,” says the singer. He emphasised that if the audience knows the performer is genuine, then they won’t mind if a singer slightly messes up the lyrics or the tune while performing live. The audience will always connect with a genuine singer, believes Shankar Mahadevan. And we couldn’t agree more!

A Game Of “Who’s Most Likely To?” With The Family
The game of “who’s most likely to” had Kamiya asking the musical family, “Who’s most likely to click lots of images with Lord Ganesha?” The family instantly replied that it was Shivam, Shankar Mahadevan’s younger son. When it comes to the most emotional person during visarjan, Shivam and Siddharth pointed at each other. The duo replied that they felt deeply attached to Bappa and always found it difficult to bid farewell to the deity.
