“I Wanted An Easy Life For Our Kids,” Shankar Mahadevan And Sangeetha On Living In Vashi

Shankar Mahadevan

For the latest episode of Sunday Brunch, our Editor-in-Chief attended the Ganeshotsav celebration at Shankar Mahadevan’s home in Vashi. After the aarti, the singer spoke about what made the Ganesh murti special—the mesmerising eyes that felt as if Lord Ganesh was watching them. For brunch, Kamiya joined the entire Mahadevan family and enjoyed an authentic South Indian meal, served on banana leaves. During the conversation, the singer and his wife, Sangeeta Mahadevan, also shared why they chose to shift to Vashi. Scroll down to know more.

Why Shankar Mahadevan’s Family Lives In Vashi?

Kamiya Jani sat down with Shankar Mahadevan, his wife, and sons, Siddharth Mahadevan and Shivam Mahadevan, for a lovely conversation over a Sunday Brunch. When asked how the couple met, they shared that they were neighbours and used to play together. As the communication flowed, the singer mentioned that they knew each other when he was in the 10th grade and Sangeeta was in 7th standard.

The couple now stays in Vashi because Sangeeta’s parents live there, and she also went to school in Vashi. Sangeeta said, “Shankar’s profession required a lot of travelling.” She further added that she wanted her children’s lives to be easy and under the guidance of their grandparents. According to her, it helped in the children’s upbringing. Shankar Mahadevan further added that the work he did would have ended up with him working 24/7 on dubbing and editing. But once he crossed the bridge and reached Vashi, he didn’t have to go back to work.

Both Shankar and Sangeeta Mahadevan love the vibe of Navi Mumbai. They even mentioned that compared to the rest of Mumbai, Vashi is much cleaner and calmer. He further said, “Apna gaav hai ye.”

How Singer Celebrates Ganeshotsav?

During the Ganesh celebration, Shankar Mahadevan and his wife bring a sense of nostalgia by playing various games. After dinner, they host “karaoke night, minute-to-minute and daily housie game.” For the housie game, the participants have to first buy the ticket, by the way! The singer also mentioned that there are people who come daily and never miss an aarti at their home. The Ganpati murti in their home is made by three people—one creates the idol, one paints it, and one focuses solely on the eyes.

From giving darshan of this beautiful murti to hosting iconic games, the Ganeshotsav celebration at the singer’s home is truly memorable. To know more about the conversation with Shankar and Sangeeta Mahadevan, you can check out the Sunday Brunch episode on Curly Tales’ YouTube channel.
