On the latest episode of Sunday Brunch, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, attended the Ganeshotsav Celebration at Shankar and Sangeeta Mahadevan’s home in Vashi, Mumbai. First, everyone did an aarti and then talked about how they celebrate the festival every year. During the conversation, the singer revealed that they host various games that take everyone back to simple things in life. Scroll down to know how they celebrate.
Ganesh Chaturthi Celebration At Shankar Mahadevan’s Home
Kamiya enjoyed the grand Ganeshotsav celebration at the singer’s home. She was also treated to a delightful South Indian meal served in an authentic style on banana leaves. But before that, Shankar Mahadevan and his wife revealed how they always celebrate this festival. The singer said, “Have you seen the ground? Sab log aate hain. Koi Koi log hai jo everyday both the aartis aaenge (Everyone comes. There are some people who attend both the aartis every day). They’ll not miss an aarti at all.”
Further, the Breathless singer stated that every day they host some games, like minute-to-minute, and karaoke night. They host a housie game every day, for which participants have to first buy a ticket, “just like we used to in earlier times.” Sangeeta Mahadevan said that first, everyone has dinner and then gets to the games. The singer said, “It’s basically going back to simple things in life we used to do.”
The Ganeshotsav celebration at their home is organised on a grand level, where people from every community attend. They even dressed their dog, Kiwi, in traditional clothes.

Ganesh Celebration Food Menu
After a lovely conversation, Kamiya Jani, along with Shankar Mahadevan, his wife and two sons, sat on a round table. They were served the food on banana leaves, and the singer described the name of each dish and their speciality. In the menu, they had payasam, chole especially for Punjabis, bhindi raita, pineapple pachadi, Kerala’s speciality—Olan, aloo sabji and lastly, tasty ukadiche modaks. Kamiya even joked that she was singing the aarti loudly, praying to get ukachide modaks.
