Beware, IPL Fans! Woman Falls Victim To ₹52,500 Ticket Scam At Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium

Indians love watching cricket, especially the Indian Premier League, but what if the match tickets you buy turn out to be fake? Something similar happened with a woman security guard in Karnataka who was allegedly cheated after falling victim to a fake IPL ticket scam. Read on to know more about it.

Women Falls Victim Of IPL Ticket Scam

According to the report by the Hindu, the woman transferred the money in multiple online transactions between March 30 and April 4 to a bank account shared by the accused, who promised to provide IPL match tickets. The lady who filed the complaint works as a security guard for a private agency. On March 28, 2026, she was on duty at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during an IPL match. As informed in the complaint, while she was on duty, she asked a bouncer about the availability of IPL match tickets, and he then provided her with a phone number from which she could get the tickets.

She further trusted the accused and initially transferred ₹3,000 for two tickets through an online payment method. As per the news portal, the accused then sent QR codes bearing her name, making the transaction appear genuine. Convinced by the evidence, she bought more tickets.

Woman Purchases Ticket Worth ₹52,500

Between March 30 and April 4, the woman purchased more tickets and transferred multiple amounts, like ₹4,000, ₹3,000, ₹7,500, ₹25,500, and ₹12,500, totalling ₹52,500, to the account provided by the accused through online transactions. However, even after multiple payments, no valid IPL tickets were delivered, and the accuser later became unresponsive, which made her realise that she had been duped.

After the incident, she filed a police complaint, and an investigation is underway to trace the accused and track the bank account used in the fraud. The officials suspect the involvement of cybercriminals who exploit the high demand for IPL tickets to lure victims.

Police have also advised people to avoid making advance payments to unknown individuals and to verify the authenticity of such sellers before transferring money.
