Kaziranga National Park, situated across the Brahmaputra River’s floodplains, is often referred to as the ‘pride of Assam’. The park is home to the world’s largest population of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Additionally, it shelters tigers, elephants, wild water buffalo, eastern swamp deer, and over 500 species of birds.

The park remains closed from May to October every year due to the monsoon floods. However, as per a report by Moneycontrol, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on September 10, 2025, that the park will reopen to the public ahead of Durga Puja 2025.

Tourist Footfall Expected To Rise During Festive Season

As per the same report, the reopening is expected to boost Assam’s tourism during the festive season. The park, which offers jeep and elephant safaris, attracts lakhs of domestic and international visitors every year. It is also one of India’s top eco-tourism destinations.

The announcement came during the CM’s visit to Numaligarh in Golaghat district to review preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit. Reportedly, the PM is scheduled to inaugurate India’s first bamboo-based bio-ethanol refinery, developed by Numaligarh Refinery Limited, on September 14.

The ₹7,200 crore plant is designed to produce ethanol and a range of by-products. After the inauguration, the PM will also address a public rally. To mark the occasion, Numaligarh has been upgraded with a 2 km-long ‘Neem Corridor’, where around 700 neem saplings have been planted along the route.
