Incessant rainfall has triggered landslides and flash floods in Himachal Pradesh. Highways are being washed away, roads are blocked, and shops are swept away. Now, Manali’s famous Sher-e-Punjab restaurant has also suffered heavy damage due to the worsening weather conditions.
Manali’s Iconic Sher-e-Punjab Restaurant Swept Away In Flash Flood
Several videos are going viral on social media showing the aftermath of the Himachal floods. One clip shows Manali’s famous Sher-e-Punjab with only its front side or entrance intact. The rest of the structure has been washed away by the flash floods in the area. X user, @GoHimachal_, uploaded a video showing the visuals of the restaurant.
The iconic restaurant, located along the Beas River, is popular among tourists for serving authentic Punjabi food. Situated on the Leh-Manali Highway, the building was significantly damaged due to the rising water level of the Beas River.
Netizens React To The Devastating News
Many netizens were shocked by the visuals of only the entrance remaining. One user on X wrote, “The government should immediately ban any construction near the river. These unchecked constructions cannot survive the wrath of nature,” while another reminisced about visiting the restaurant during their trip in June, writing, “In our 7-day trip, we dined there 2-3 times. Seeing its condition today, I sincerely pray that everything gets better soon.”
Several users also criticised the construction of the restaurant so close to the river. One commented, “Why do they allow construction along the river bed at all?” while another shared a similar opinion, writing, “This hotel was so close to the river, expected! It’s in fact foolish that a hotel operated at such proximity to the river! ”
For the uninitiated, Sher-e-Punjab in Manali is well known for its hospitality and for hosting many high-profile guests, including Bollywood stars and sports personalities. The restaurant has also gained popularity among food vloggers and influencers.
