2 AAICLAS Screeners Injured As Passenger Accidentally Fired Pistol
According to airport officials, the passenger, who is from Azamgarh, had arrived at the airport with his wife to board Air India Express flight IX-1810 to Mumbai. The passenger had declared possession of the weapon, which was to be carried on the flight. Airport director Puneet Gupta told ANI that the said incident took place at around 9:30 am when the weapon was being inspected by AAICLAS personnel. he stated that, during the inspection of the weapon, a round was accidentally discharged, injuring two AAICLAS screeners.
The injured employees were immediately taken to New Laxmi Trauma Centre for treatment. According to people who witnessed the incident, the male screener suffered an injury to his hand, while the female staff member was injured above her knee. Both employees are currently receiving medical treatment and are reported to be out of danger. Authorities told the news portal that the passenger had declared the firearm and ammunition and was being screened separately in the security hold area. During the inspection, screeners reportedly found that the pistol was loaded with a single round.
The passenger allegedly told officials that he was unaware that the weapon still contained ammunition. The round was discharged while the firearm was being unloaded during the screening process. Local police have been informed about the incident, and an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge.
