Anand Stall, serving vada pav and street snacks in Mumbai for 48 years, was demolished by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). More than a food joint, Anand Stall is an emotion for Mithibai College students. So, we asked Mumbaikars to share their memories of the place with us.
Mumbaikars Share Heartfelt Memories Of Anand Stall
Recently, one of the most famous street food spots in Mumbai, Anand Stall opposite Mithibai College in Vile Parle, was demolished, and Mumbaikars are truly heartbroken. Famous for its delectable street dishes, Anand Stall is a 48-year-old stall famous for more than just food.
Many Mumbaikars have visited the iconic place at least once in their life for its famous vada pav. So, we asked college alumni, residents of the area and people who visited the famous Anand Stall to share their memorable experiences of the place, and here is what they have to say.
“Felt Like Home” For Mithibai College Students
For people studying at Mithibai College, UPG, NM or NMIMS College, this place was just any other food stall, but a memorable piece of their college life.
Keerat Kohli, an alumnus of Mithibai College, called the place ‘close to her heart for 5 years’.
“Anand Stall has always been a Vile Parle staple for as long as I can remember, synonymous with Amar Juice Centre. There’s always hustle and bustle around that area, be it the college crowd in the morning or the foodies at night. People love it for its Vada Pav, but the Shezwan Cheese Frankie and Masala Toast remained close to my heart for 5 years,” shared Keerat.
Another alumnus, Sourabh Debnath, described the place as more than just a snack spot.
He stated, “Anand Stall Vada Pav was more than just a food stall for us. When I was studying at Mithibai College, it was a place full of memories. Whenever we had a budget crunch, Anand’s Vada Pav was always there for us. The people serving there always did it with so much warmth, and it felt like home.”
He also reacted to the news of the place shutting down and said, “Hearing that it’s shut down is honestly heartbreaking. For many of us alumni and for the current students, too, it was more than just a snack spot. It was a part of our college life and memories.”

Heth Dalal, another alumnus of Mithibai College, recalled her time in college and her attachment to the place.
“Being from Mithibai College, I have been there thousands of times in three years. There were times when I missed college, but visited Anand Stall. We had our fixed order, Butter Vada Pav and Jinni Dosa. I loved it. More than the taste, I would say that place was about the vibe, and it will always be my core memory, as I spent a lot of my time there.”
“Anand Stall was more like an everyday go-to place after college. Just after the first lecture, we decided to go to the stall for a meet-up and fun time. I studied at Mithibai, but I am from Indore, so as someone not from Mumbai, that place had my breakfast and lunch sorted without any worry,” reminisced Suditi Gupta, another Mithibai College alumnus.
Sarah Waghule recalled her time visiting Anand Stall and also told us her go-to order. “Yes, there was a time when I used to go twice a day, once during college and later in the evening after finishing up with a sport. I really enjoy having their cheese masala dosa and their masala soda. Their Vada Pav is also nice. I’m going to miss that place.”

For Residents, It Felt “Special”
The place was not just special for college students but also for residents. For people living in Andheri, Vile Parle and Juhu, Anand Stall became a regular visit for them.
Meghna Rajpal, who resides in Andheri, talked about her experience visiting the place. “It was one of the first places in Mumbai, so it was special for me. Being from Jai Hind College in Churchgate, I used to travel to Mithibai College in Juhu, only because I had heard a lot about the place, and it really left me impressed. I tried their Vada Pav and sandwiches and really liked them.”
Meghna ends, “I am sad that it got demolished because that place was special.”

Jinit Shah, a Juhu resident, called it a must-visit spot. He stated, “It was a place we used to go after college; all our friends used to gather there. It was the most crowded spot, and it deserved it because, honestly, the food was amazing! Street food doesn’t get any better. Everyone who has studied at NM or Mithibai knows that the major chilling spot is the Anand Stall. The vada pavs, varieties of dosa and amazing sandwiches.”
Garima Samadhia, another Andheri resident, shared her mixed reaction to the shutdown of the place. Recalling her experience of visiting the place once, she said, “I remember this one time I was in Vile Parle and so hungry, so someone suggested Anand Stall for their Vada Pav.
Going there, I ordered their best seller, and I liked it too, but I feel there are better vada pavs in the city, too. Obviously, it’s sad that such a good place is being demolished; all we can hope for is that they return soon and continue serving some delectable dishes.”

For Others, Anand Stall Was “Nice But Overrated”
Renisa Shah, an alumnus of UPG College of Arts and Commerce, had a far different experience of visiting Anand Stall. As someone who spent three years of her life around that food joint, she found the place quite “overrated.” Unlike others, she was never attached to the place.
She shared, “Anand Stall in Mumbai has never been a part of my memory. The dosas were good but quite overpriced. Overall, the place was quietly overrated, and I am really not sad about the demolition of the stall.”

Siddhi Mugdiya also called that place a good but overhyped spot to chill. She said, “I honestly love the dosa there. I introduced them to my friends, as the food was just so yummy and fulfilling. Although the Vada Pav there was okay, there are many other good vada pav spots in the city. Sadly, they demolished it, but honestly, it was an overhyped spot.”
