CT Review: I Visited Delhi’s Nadoo For Ghee Roast Chicken & I Am Already Planning To Return

Nadoo Delhi

Another day, another CT Review. Since South Indian food is making waves these days, I decided to step into Nadoo, which is an imprint of love and land from Southern India. The food I tasted and the drinks I sipped were something I had never experienced before. Scroll down to read my full experience and what I ate and drank at this newly opened South Indian restaurant in Greater Kailash 3, New Delhi.

I Dined At Nadoo, Which Brings A Taste Of South India To Delhi

Before getting into the review, let us tell you what ‘Nadoo’ means. The Tamil word is commonly used to denote a specific region or land. This is exactly what Chef Shri Bala is trying to do with Nadoo. She is setting a piece of South India in Delhi with lip-smacking food. The moment I entered, I was surprised to see so many people enjoying South Indian curries and snacks over conversations with their loved ones.

The place instantly felt like a lived-in home. Curated by Mr Sahil Sambhi and Chef Shri Bala, Nadoo is a homage to the culinary landscapes of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana.

Starters That Were Truly Delicious

I started off my dinner by ordering their Gunpowder Edamame, which came tempered with gunpowder oil glaze, curry leaves, salt, and tamarind pearls. I might not be a fan of edamame, but I think I might be having more of these, especially if they are cooked in the kitchen of Nadoo. The soybeans, with their grassy taste, were enhanced with spice and a hit of tanginess. The edamame inside was tender and smooth. The taste was honestly addictive, and I could not stop myself from reaching out for more.

The next starter was their chef’s special, Pushpa Chilli Chicken. And I need a moment to describe how it tasted. I have been a fan of chilli chicken since my childhood, but Pushpa Chilli Chicken might have just won my heart a little more. This dish was an absolute explosion of flavour. Super crisp on the outside yet incredibly tender inside. Its spicy taste hit home, and it was just perfect. Both these starters were served with a range of South Indian chutneys such as tomato, coconut, coriander, mango, and even papaya chutney.

Main Course That Felt Like Home

Coming to the main course, I was recommended to try Nadoo’s chef special Chicken Ghee Roast, which was served with soft baos. One bite into the chicken left me with a feeling of nostalgia, even though I grew up in a Punjabi home. The dish had authentic South Indian flavours, but the taste still felt like home. The dish had that feeling of being cooked by one’s mother. It was hearty and had an intense chilli flavour. The gravy was slightly thick and paired perfectly with the bao.

Drinks & Dessert That Completed The Meal

The starters and main course were paired with two types of cocktails: Southern Tide and Pepper Saaru. The first green-hued cocktail looked refreshing and hit the right notes. The drink, inspired by southern coastal aromas, tasted great with the spicy Pushpa Chilli Chicken. The other one, Pepper Saaru, is perfect for people like me who like their cocktails light with a hint of warmth. The drink had a slice of tomato at the base of the glass and looked aesthetic.

After the cocktails, I also ordered a mocktail called Dakshin Aura. The beverage, made with tender coconut water, kaffir lime, and pandan, had a great aroma and a tropical vibe. The taste was slightly sweet and mellow.

The evening, which flowed smoothly, couldn’t have ended without dessert, right? From their amazing selection, I went with their Chilled Payasam Pannacotta. I chose this because trying an authentic South Indian payasam has been on my list for quite some time, and this felt like the perfect opportunity.

The dessert arrived, and with just one bite, I knew this was something I could eat every day. It wasn’t too sweet, which I liked. As someone who does not have a sweet tooth, finding the right dessert can be tough. The payasam was soft and velvety with smooth bites. It melted in my mouth and gave a cooling finish. It definitely ended my evening on the perfect note.
