Roxanne’s, An American-Inspired Bar & All Day Diner Has Landed In Mumbai
Roxanne’s is close to the concept of a speakeasy, as upon entering the Peninsula Redpine Hotel, you’ll have to find your way to it. Once you step in, you’ll be greeted by warm, old-school American diner interiors. Picture warm lights, plush booths with ample sitting area and an alfresco setup overlooking the running city.
The contemporary cocktail bar anchors right in the centre, with Roxanne’s signboard hanging right above it with neon light. It’s more of a theatre where mixologists put up a show, crafting their creative cocktails. The place is designed to make guests linger longer in the presence of humming music in the background from the VDJ sets. Founder & Director Shashank Shetty wanted to build a space that’s full of warmth and personality that would convert visitors into regulars. And that’s how Roxanne’s was born.
Food Menu Packed With Surprises And Flavourbombs
The food menu feels massive at first glance. From Starters to the mains, everything demands attention, but you know something has to be left for the second visit. At Roxanne’s, it wasn’t just about the dishes but also about the portions, flavours and the techniques. You might recognise many of the dishes and drinks, but Roxanne’s always slips in a twist you won’t see coming. Whether it’s a casual catch-up or a planned party, the menu flexes easily to suit every kind of plan.
Here’s what we tried:
Appetisers:
1. Lotus Crunch
If you love yourself some crispy lotus stem chips, you have to order this. The portion size is perfect for sharing. At Roxanne’s, they come tossed in jalapeño pepper spice and paired with a side dip that needs a shoutout. It’s creamy coconut mayo, a squeeze of lemon and some pepper that complements the chips beautifully.
2. Enoki Crunch Uramaki Roll
Enoki Crunch roll is a delicate combination of enoki mushrooms with sushi rice, silky truffle avocado puree wrapped in a nori sheet. Every bite gives you the perfect balance of crunchy, earthy and luxurious notes with a hint of indulgence.
3. Japanese Tortilla Pizza: Salmon on the Strip
The Salmon Carpaccio at Roxanne’s is a showstopper dish. Thin slices of fresh, buttery salmon rest elegantly on an Asian-style tortilla, creating a delicate base. It’s light and satisfying. A drizzle of truffle oil with shavings of Parmesan offers a salty punch and enhances every bite.
4. Robata Grilled Specials: Yakitori Classics
These are among the most recommended dishes on the menu. We tried the chicken skewers that were perfectly charred and glazed in a soy sauce with a hint of sweetness. Even the caramelised onion shavings used as garnish deserved a mention.
Mains
By the time the mains arrived, I was honestly planning to take a short walk to recover from the appetisers. And here’s a gentle warning for you. The mains have a generous portion, and you need to be prepared to either make space or share it. I wisely chose the second option!
Between The Bread:
1. The Caprese Classic
Yes, I love a good, no-frills Caprese. It’s scrumptious and clean. Add basil pesto to it, and I am sold! That’s what happened here. The Caprese Classic is a hearty sandwich made using heirloom tomato, buffalo mozzarella, and pesto layered between two slices of ciabatta. As a pesto lover, I was overjoyed to see pesto served alongside the dish. It was fresh, delicious and satiating. Also, to add a side of crunch, the dish comes with a portion of in-house spiced potato chips that are truly addictive.
2. Honey, I’m Spicy
If you really love spicy food, the lethal level, then this might change your perspective a bit. Korean fried chicken tossed in honey and gochujang that hits the perfect sweet-heat spot. It arrives between glossy and fresh buns and slaw, and makes it almost impossible to stop after a bite.
Apart from these, the menu also features soups, starters, dumplings, pasta and rice/noodles, asian curries. Desserts will soon feature on their menu to promise you that sweet end.
Cocktails So Fancy, They Steal The Spotlight!
Yes, we know cocktails are fancy everywhere. But how many spots do you know where they curate a drink that feels like it stepped straight out of a lab? We are talking about dry ice, smoke and a drizzle of truffle oil. Yes, even we felt like it was a wonderland of cocktails.
Signature Cocktails:
1. Ghostbuster
True to its name, Ghostbuster arrived on the table served in a skull-shaped glass that felt inspired by the Mexican festival of Día de los Muertos. To elevate the aesthetics, they pour in dry ice around the glass. The drink has sweet notes derived from lychee, coconut, pineapple and fresh passionfruit.
2. Tiramisu Martini
Imagine your favourite coffee dessert turned into a drink and served in a beautiful glass. You get the bold notes of coffee from the liquor, balanced with the sweetness and nuttiness from the hazelnut flavour, along with the creamy foam. The finishing touch of the biscuit on top makes it a dream.
3. Buttered Up Babe
This drink is not your average sip-and-go situation! It comes hidden inside a popcorn cone, topped with actual salted popcorn drizzled with truffle oil. And there’s a straw tucked in the middle to help you sip your whisky-based cocktail while snacking.
4. Clean Slate
This cocktail is inspired by the classic combination of rum and Coke. But, at Roxanne’s, there’s always a twist. Similarly, for Clean Slate, arrives crystal clear as they use white rum and in-house seltzer.
All their signature comes with their unique presentation. We highly recommend Y2K, 90s Mixtape and What A Peach from their menu!
Beyond the bar, we spotted an emerging coffee set-up at their alfresco area, hinting at upcoming breakfast plans at Roxanne’s. Afterall, what’s an American diner without breakfast-coffee ritual!
