Delhi’s fondness for Chinese food is nothing new. Beyond kebabs and chole bhature, the city loves indulging in the warmth and comfort of Chinese flavours. That’s exactly why, for over 40 years, Berco’s has grown into one of Delhi’s most loved eateries. But did you know there’s an interesting story behind the restaurant’s name, and it has nothing to do with the Chinese language or cuisine? Scroll on to find out!
What Does Berco’s Actually Stands For?
Well, well, well! It turns out Delhi’s iconic Chinese eatery, Berco’s, has a full form that even its most loyal customers don’t know about. Taking to Instagram, Berco’s Chief Operating Officer, Shome Advani, spoke about the eatery’s origin story and revealed an interesting fact–the name Berco’s actually has a full form!
Shome and Shravan Advani, Associate Director at Berco’s, spoke about the brand’s legacy and its origin story, which, interestingly, had nothing to do with food, let alone Chinese cuisine. Nearly 40 years ago, the brand was focused on something entirely different–music!
In the Instagram video, Shome shared, “A lot of our customers may not know this, but Berco’s actually stands for Bhagwandas Electric Radio Company. This is because we used to run a music shop back in the day, which we were running up until the early 2000s, until we decided to transition into the restaurant business.”
Shravan added, “It was actually a very happy accident that right below our music shop, there was just an empty space, and the landlord was like, “I’m not doing anything with it. Are you guys interested in using it?” So our grandfather, at the time, just decided to open up a small cafe, and 40 years later, we’ve pivoted from the music business. And…here we are!”

The journey of Berco’s began in 1982 with an eatery serving authentic Chinese and Asian cuisine in Connaught Place, Delhi. The restaurant soon set the stage for decades of culinary excellence and steady expansion. In 1997, the brand opened its second outlet in Noida Sector 12, followed by its first franchise at Kamla Nagar, Delhi, in 2003.
The brand went beyond Delhi for the first time in 2010 with an outlet in Amritsar. Since then, Berco’s has expanded steadily across India and now operates over 50 outlets. They are widely famous for their Manchurian Bowl, Thupka, Honey Chilli Potato, Chilli Garlic Noodles, Chicken Drumsticks, and Chilli Prawns.
