From September 22, walking into an Amul parlour or picking up your favourite Amul butter or cheese is going to cost you less. A lot less, if you’re a fan of Amul’s paneer, cheese, butter, chocolates, or ice cream. This price cut comes as the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation passes on the full benefits of GST 2.0 directly to consumers, making indulgent dairy treats more affordable than ever.

According to The Indian Express, on Saturday, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the body behind the Amul brand, announced that it has cut prices across more than 700 products to “pass on full GST 2.0 benefits” directly to customers. The reductions are sharpest in categories that are household items and loved by everyone alike: ice cream, chocolates, butter, and cheese.
Take paneer, for instance; the entire Amul paneer range will now carry zero GST, instantly shaving off about 5% from the retail price. For shoppers, that means a one-kilo block of Amul Malai Paneer is down by ₹15. Cheese follows suit; a one-kilo block is now ₹30 cheaper. The butter most Indian households swear by (500g pack) drops from ₹305 to ₹285. Even the five-litre ghee tin has been repriced at ₹3,075, compared to the earlier ₹3,275.
Dessert lovers aren’t left out. A one-litre tub of Amul ice cream, once priced at ₹195, has been introduced with a price cut and will now be sold at ₹180. Amul’s signature dark and milk chocolates, both priced at ₹200 for a 150g bar until yesterday, have been marked down to ₹180, thanks to GST falling from 18% to 5%.

The federation has built a portal where customers can verify these revised tags for themselves, marking a rare attempt at transparency in India’s crowded food sector. Distributors, parlours, and retailers have already been briefed, so expect the changes to hit shelves immediately.
In a statement, Amul struck a note of gratitude while also underlining its dual role as both consumer champion and farmer-owned cooperative. “This revision is across the range of product categories such as butter, ghee, UHT milk, ice-cream, cheese, paneer, chocolates, bakery range, frozen dairy and potato snacks, condensed milk, peanut spread, malt-based drink, etc. Amul thanks the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for making nutrition more accessible and affordable for the nation,” it said, as stated by The Indian Express.

With per capita consumption of products like cheese, ice cream, and butter still modest in India, Amul believes lower prices will fuel a surge in demand. That’s not just a win for middle-class families hunting value at the checkout counter; it also means a bigger slice of consumer spending going straight back to the federation’s 3.6 million farmer-owners.
