If they aren’t already, we’re sure your pantry and fridge will be stocked with mithai in the next couple of days, because Diwali is almost here! No matter how much we love cakes and brownies, the pure joy of indulging in some jalebi and kaju katli during the festive season is something incomparable. But how healthy is your choice of mithai this Diwali? A nutritionist took to Instagram to rate some of the most popular Indian sweets, and here’s what she has to say about them.

Nutritionist Rates Top Indian Sweets

Diwali season officially begins from Saturday, and for the next few days, calorie count, healthy eating, meal checks, and all of this is going to take a backseat! Festivals are all about indulgence, and we’d never want to take away the joy of hogging on mithai, especially during Diwali! However, we couldn’t help but share this Instagram video that we came across that highlights the importance of mindful eating, especially during festivals.

Nutritionist Deepsikha Jain (@fries.to.fit) rated some of the most popular Indian sweets this season. From gulab jamun to kaju katli and rasgulla, she also broke down why each mithai earned its rating. She rated five of the most popular Indian sweets based on how good and bad they are for your health.

Which Is The Best Desi Mithai For Diwali?

In the caption, she said, “I love enjoying sweets during Diwali but also being very mindful about it so I don’t end up putting on those extra kgs!” Here are all the Indian sweets she rated, and her take on which ones are the best picks for Diwali.

1. Gulab jamun: She rated this OG mithai a 3/10. Since this sweetmeat is fried and also high in saturated fats and sugar, it isn’t the best festive sweet to indulge in.
2. Kaju katli: Undoubtedly, one of the most loved Indian sweets, this amazing mithai scored a 5/10 in Deepsikha’s ratings. Due to the healthy fats of cashew, it is high in calories, but has low sugar content.
3. Motichoor laddu: Despite being made with besan, this delicious laddu got a 4/10 rating because it is deep-fried.
4. Jalebi: The sugary goodness got a 1/10. “It’s the worst Indian mithai because it is high in trans fat and fried,” the nutritionist explained.
5. Rasgulla: The best Indian mithai for Diwali, according to Deepsikha Jain, is rasgulla, and she gave it a 7/10. Made with cottage cheese, you can indulge in this sweet by simply squeezing out the excess sugar syrup.
