Madhya Pradesh is not called the “Tiger State of India” for nothing. The state is home to some of the country’s most breathtaking forests, rich biodiversity, peaceful landscapes, and unforgettable safari experiences. But honestly, safaris in MP are not just about tiger spotting. They are about waking up at 5 am for misty jungle drives, hearing birds before sunrise, sitting silently in a jeep while the forest slowly comes alive, and feeling disconnected from city chaos for a while.
From famous tiger reserves to underrated jungle escapes, here are 8 national parks in Madhya Pradesh that every wildlife lover should experience at least once.
8 Must-Visit Tiger Safaris In Madhya Pradesh
1. Kanha National Park
I know people from Madhya Pradesh will relate hard to it, but Kanha is probably the most iconic wildlife destination to visit in Madhya Pradesh. The park is famous for its massive greenery, thick sál forests, bamboo trees, and serene atmosphere. A little secret? It is also believed to have inspired Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.
Whenever you visit the Kanha National Park, one thing must be the Tiger sightings, but honestly, Kanha is beautiful even if you do not spot one. If you are not lucky enough to spot a Tiger, you can spot other wildlife animals here, like Barasinghas, leopards, wild dogs, jackals, and hundreds of bird species. The best time to visit here is winter because the early misty morning safaris in the season feel magical, as the entire forest is covered in fog.
2. Pench National Park
Honestly, being from Madhya Pradesh, I still haven’t visited the Pench National Park, and I know it’s a sad thing. But nevertheless, I have heard a lot of good things, one of them being how it is one of the most thrilling safari experiences in MP. Being spread across Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, the national park is known for its dense teak forests, open forests, and relatively high chances of tiger sightings.
The forest here feels intense and ethereal. You will often see deer crossing the roads, langurs jumping across trees, and birds everywhere around you. The best part? Pench is also famous for night safaris, which feel unique compared to daytime jungle drives. Spotting hyenas or jackals at night adds a whole different level of excitement.
For wildlife enthusiasts and first-time safari tourists, Pench is usually one of the best choices.
3. Bandhavgarh National Park
If seeing a tiger is your biggest goal, Bandhavgarh should definitely be on your list. The national park is famous for having one of the highest tiger densities in India. And honestly, I have been there twice, and I would prefer Bandhavgarh over any other safari, always!
Apart from wildlife, the forest also has a beautiful place to unwind. During safaris, you might come across caves, old statues, and fort ruins hidden between trees.
The terrain here is rocky, dense, and visually stunning. Even the jeep rides themselves feel adventurous.
4. Satpura National Park
Satpura is honestly one of the most underrated wildlife destinations in India. Unlike most parks that only offer jeep safaris, Satpura gives travellers multiple ways to explore the jungle.
You can go for walking safaris, canoe rides, boat safaris, and jeep safaris here. Walking through forest trails with trained guides feels raw and adventurous in a way regular safaris cannot match.
The Denwa River flowing beside the forest adds to the beauty of the experience. The sunsets here are absolutely stunning, and the park feels far less crowded compared to other famous tiger reserves.
5. Panna National Park
Panna is proof that wildlife conservation can truly work wonders. Once struggling with tiger population loss, the park is now one of India’s successful tiger conservation stories.
Located close to Khajuraho, Panna offers a mix of forests, waterfalls, grasslands, and river landscapes. The Ken River flowing through the park makes the scenery look incredibly beautiful during safaris.
Apart from tigers, you can also spot crocodiles, wolves, antelopes, and vultures here. The safari routes are less crowded, which makes the entire experience feel more peaceful.

6. Kuno National Park
Kuno recently became famous because of India’s cheetah reintroduction project, but the national park itself deserves attention beyond just that.
The forest here feels untouched and wild. Since tourism is still growing, safaris in Kuno feel quieter and less commercialised. Along with cheetahs, the park is home to leopards, hyenas, nilgais, deer, and several bird species.
For travellers who enjoy less crowded places and raw jungle experiences, Kuno feels refreshing.
7. Madhav National Park
Located near Shivpuri, Madhav National Park is one of the lesser-discussed wildlife spots in MP, but it deserves way more recognition.
The park is known for its lakes, grasslands, forest patches, and peaceful surroundings. It is an ideal place for birdwatchers and slow travellers who enjoy quieter wildlife experiences rather than highly touristy safaris.
Unlike busier parks, Madhav gives you enough space to simply enjoy nature without constantly rushing after sightings.
8. Sanjay National Park
Sanjay National Park is one of those hidden gems that still feels unexplored. Located in the eastern part of Madhya Pradesh, the park is filled with dense greenery, waterfalls, and peaceful jungle roads.
The biggest charm here is the silence. Safaris feel calm, uninterrupted, and genuinely close to nature. While tiger sightings are possible, the real beauty lies in the untouched forest atmosphere.
