Centre Rejects Ban Rumours On Indian Mangoes To Nepal

The centre released an official statement stating that the Nepal government, through its Plant Quarantine and Pesticide Management Centre, which also serves as the country’s National Plant Protection Organisation, has verified that no ban has been imposed on Indian mango imports.

Earlier, on June 10, Nepal confirmed that the import of Indian mangoes continues to be permitted, according to compliance with established phytosanitary requirements. As per the release by the Ministry, import permits and release orders are being granted by Nepalese authorities with respect to the fulfilment of the mandatory conditions and submission of valid phytosanitary certificates issued by the Indian government. This comes up after the reports that suggested that Nepal has banned imports of Indian mangoes, raising concerns among traders and exporters of both countries.

Mango Export To Nepal To Continue Without Disruption

As per a report by NDTV, the Ministry also stated that exports to Nepal are proceeding without disruption. The centre also released the data, which highlighted that since January 2026, India has exported 149 shipments of mangoes to Nepal, amounting to 2,005 metric tonnes. In June alone, 18 consignments totalling 266 metric tonnes have been shipped out.

The Ministry confirmed that Nepal has recently amended certain import conditions, such as making Hot Water Treatment (HWT) mandatory for mango shipments. However, it stated that India is continuing to permit exports in compliance with the updated requirements. On the other hand, India has conveyed its concerns over the introduction of new phytosanitary measures without previous consultation.
