When we go on holidays, especially to international destinations, breakfast buffets are often included in our stay charges. But lately, people packing breakfast items into bags and taking them to their rooms has become quite common. Something similar happened in Zurich, Switzerland, when an Indian man saw an Indian family filling their bags with breakfast items at a hotel. Here’s what happened.
Indian Family Packs Breakfast From Zurich Hotel Buffet
I’m staying in a hotel in Zürich .
An Indian family , after having the breakfast, they filled their empty buckets with food , fruits, yoghurt, boiled egg, which they can eat during the day .
It was clearly mentioned at the entrance of the breakfast area, not to pack anything…

Zurich is known as one of the most expensive cities in the world, not just for tourists but also for locals. Planning a trip there requires careful planning, as accommodations and meals can be quite costly. While many hotels offer breakfast buffets as part of their package, sometimes people still don’t think it’s enough. Recently, an X user, Sumit Saurabh, took to his X account (@sumitsaurabh) to share something he witnessed during his Zurich trip.
He wrote that while having breakfast at his hotel, he saw an Indian family packing their bags with fruits, yoghurt, boiled eggs, and other food to eat later in the day. He also mentioned that the hotel had clearly put up a sign at the entrance of the breakfast area stating that guests were not allowed to take food outside. Sumit added, “Literally, everyone was surprised and shocked to see this behaviour. The Indian family was on Switzerland trip. I’m sure they must have paid a bomb of money. Still, they showed why we are being hated across the globe.”
It should be noted that a breakfast buffet is a self-service meal with a wide range of dishes and beverages for guests to enjoy. But it’s meant to be eaten during breakfast hours only.
Netizens React To The Viral Post
While breakfast buffets allow guests to eat as much as they want within the set timings, some hotels, like this Zurich one, have strict rules against packing food to take away. The post quickly went viral and drew mixed reactions from netizens.
One user commented, “They are doing this because they don’t have any feeling about the image of India. They are concerned about their personal benefit,” while another wrote, “These are the kind of people who bring shame to all of us. You should have told them that’s not appropriate behaviour,” expressing disappointment at such behaviour.
However, a few others defended the family, saying that people from many countries do the same, not just Indians. One user commented, “You should’ve confronted them.” One X user also wrote, “Funny thing is, if they asked the restaurant staff, they would have helped with that.” Many agreed that it wasn’t the right thing to do, especially when hotels clearly mention the rules.
