You know Ranbir, Kareena, Karisma, and basically the entire Kapoor family are foodies at heart! In fact, they even made an entire series about Raj Kapoor and, well, you guessed it, food. Turns out, the family’s matriarch, Krishna Raj Kapoor, maintained a diary filled with the Kapoor khandaan’s favourite recipes. However, one beloved recipe had gone missing—until recently. Her grandson, Armaan Jain, has finally unearthed the recipe for the long-lost dish that the entire family once loved.
Khada Shahi: Kapoor Family’s Secret Recipe!
Just like the rest of the Kapoors, Armaan Jain is a hardcore foodie! But he isn’t just someone who loves to eat, he also loves to cook. It was this passion for cooking that led him to rediscover his grandmother Krishna Kapoor’s recipe diary and recreate many of the dishes she once made for the Kapoor family.
However, one recipe was missing from the diary: a dish called Khada Shahi, which was apparently a favourite among the Kapoors. Despite its popularity within the family, no one knew the recipe, and even Krishna Kapoor’s diary didn’t have it. Armaan Jain revealed that actress and screenwriter Honey Irani is the only person who still knows the recipe for Khada Shahi, the Kapoor khandaan’s long-lost family dish.
To celebrate the rediscovery, Honey Irani invited Armaan Jain, his mother Reema Kapoor Jain, and actress Dimple Kapadia, one of the few people in the industry to have actually tasted the dish, for an intimate dinner, where she prepared Khada Shahi for them.
“I found this golden treasure because it was missing from my nani’s recipe book, and we finally located it. Honey aunty was sweet enough to call us home to eat Khada Shahi,” Armaan Jain shared in the post.

So, Who Knew The Recipe?
It turns out, Honey Irani was the only person who had learnt the recipe from the late Krishna Kapoor. The reason? Her children, Zoya and Farhan Akhtar, loved the dish so much that she made sure to learn how to cook it.

In the reel shared by Armaan Jain, Honey Irani reveals that the banana leaf is opened to uncover a paratha inside. She also shares that the preparation dates back to a tradition started by Prithviraj Kapoor, making it a cherished Kapoor family speciality passed down through generations.
Unlike what its name may suggest, Khada Shahi doesn’t appear to be a rich Mughlai gravy. Instead, it seems to be a stuffed or layered paratha wrapped and cooked in banana leaves. The exact ingredients, however, have never been made public, making the recipe one of the Kapoor family’s best-kept culinary secrets!
