Food Vlogger Recreates Indian School Lunch Ft. Biryani

Food vlogger Sam Jose (@samjose) often shares cooking videos on his social media, many of which feature him cooking for his wife. Now, he has started a new series showcasing what different countries serve as lunch to students. Shockingly, for India, he decided to prepare biryani, lentil soup (AKA dal!), flatbread, and some carrots. He posted the video with the caption: “The Indian school lunch.”

In the video, he can be seen chopping vegetables along with garlic and ginger, adding them to a pot with spices and moong dal. Once the “lentil soup” was ready, he moved on to prepare biryani—starting with washing the rice, marinating the chicken, and cooking them in a pan with all the spices and garlic. While preparing the food, the vlogger said, “I’m telling you right now, if I was served Indian food for lunch growing up, I would have actually wanted to go to school.” Finally, he prepared hot roti and enjoyed the meal, concluding: “So far, India is in the lead” in the ongoing series.

Netizens’ Reaction To This

This video by the food vlogger has created quite a buzz on the internet, and netizens didn’t hold back. After all, if you have actually attended school in India, you know it was never on the menu. The video has received plenty of humorous reactions.

One user wrote, “Which school is serving biryani?”

Another one seconded his thoughts and added, “Bro, which school is giving biryani?”

One netizen complained, “Which Indian school serves biryani for school lunch? I used to have daal and rice, and that daal was like diluted in tons of water.”

One netizen commented, “That’s dal my man, and what you made is pulav, not biryani, dude. Anyway, great initiative by you and personally, a tip, never pair dal and biryani, biryani is eaten as is and whereas dal is with rice. Your determination in cooking is remarkable, by the way.”
