2,500 Akka Cafes To Open Across Karnataka
According to The Economic Times, on Thursday, Karnataka Industries minister M B Patil announced that the state has sanctioned ₹25 crore to set up 2,500 Akka Cafes. These cafes will be coffee kiosks run by women trained by self-help groups (SHGs).
The minister made the announcement while inaugurating the India International Coffee Festival (IICF), organised by the Speciality Coffee Association of India (SCAI) at Palace Grounds in Bengaluru. Speaking about the initiative, he said it would not only strengthen the state’s coffee industry value chain but also promote economic empowerment by generating employment opportunities.

Deccan Herald reported that the state Coffee Board has joined hands with the National Rural Livelihood Mission – Karnataka to train women associated with self-help groups (SHGs). Around one lakh women across the state are being trained in coffee brewing, cafe management, and entrepreneurship.
Not just that, the minister added that they are also extending scholarships to children of workers employed in coffee estates and large plantations in Kodagu district. As per the report, coffee is one of Karnataka’s main crops, and the state is the largest producer in the country. It is cultivated over 2.2 lakh hectares in the state, and this initiative will help promote the local produce.
