Alongside a love for food and exploring new destinations, adventure tourism is on the rise, with more travellers seeking thrilling experiences when planning their trips. However, this growing trend has also raised safety concerns. Following a recent malfunction of a sky-dining platform in Idukki, the district is now implementing stricter inspections and a monitoring system. Scroll down for more details.

Idukki Tightens Rules After Sky-Dining Mishap

In a tragic incident in Idukki, Kerala, a sky-dining platform malfunctioned, leaving a family of four, including two children, suspended nearly 150 feet above the ground, according to Travel and Tour World. Fortunately, fire and rescue teams arrived on time and brought them down safely. Later, officials found that the attraction was operating without proper approvals or safety measures. So, a case was filed against the operators, and the spot was immediately shut down.

Following this, the Idukki district administration began a detailed review of adventure tourism activities. They discovered several high-risk attractions functioning without mandatory approvals. Authorities have now warned that any operator running without the required licences will face strict action. Police also registered a case against the sky-dining operators under sections related to endangering human life and violating public safety rules. A stop memo was issued, and the establishment was barred from further operations.

During inspections, officials found that the sky-dining service had started in October but had not produced documents to prove approvals from key departments. These include revenue authorities, fire and rescue services, electrical safety officers, and the local civic body.

Plans To Introduce Structured Monitoring System

As adventure-based activities are growing in this district, authorities are now planning to launch a more structured monitoring system. After the local body elections, every panchayat in Idukki will list all adventure tourism operators. This will help spot businesses running without the proper licences. What happens if any operator does not follow the rules? They will have to stop their activities until they get all the necessary approvals.

If you love adventure activities and enjoy trying thrilling experiences, it’s important to stay safe. Before you book any activity, do your research and make sure the operator has all the required approvals and follows proper safety standards.
